Practice makes progress

No matter what level you are expecting to achieve, your growth is based on how effectively and diligently you are during your practice time. It is about how eager you desire to learn and not on the number of lessons you are attending. Furthermore, significant factors on how well you desire to be able to play consists of your piano teacher, how driven you are, and your individual learning speed. This is of course regardless how minutes a day or days per week you are practicing.

Surely, one can take 100 lessons in a year, but that would not make you any good if you only practice 30 minutes per day. Many piano performers started performing publicly after 10 years of playing.

How Long Does it Take to Learn Piano?

Like any other musical instrument, piano is hard to master for someone with no musical history. Yet, I would motivate you not to think of the potential struggles, but think of the outcome. Remember, learning music is a lifelong journey. No one ever finishes learning. Even old musicians still rehearses, because with practice, they get much better. Learning the piano never ceases. The amount of time to learn piano is eqivalent to how much you want to learn piano, how long it takes is as much as you want to put in yourself to read music and learn music theory. Learning piano can seem like something that may take a few years but in reality it’s a lifetime, you never stop learning, you will just continue to get better, to the point where you might become a music teacher yourself if you feel you are on that level. A lot of students only need a lesson and they become hooked, reading notes on the piano instantly.

Attending your first piano lesson can be discouraging but you are not alone in that position and your teacher will understand. Even if you pick to have  private piano lessons or group lessons you are more likely to want to know how fast you will develop and progress your new skills.

For a certain period of time, it can be disappointing if you feel like you’re not getting the piano playing as fast as you would like but it’s vital to remember that patience is required and often you’ll find the more you loosen up and enjoy it the greater your playing becomes over time!
